The TerraTwin project officially started with its Kick-Off Meeting held in Athens, Greece. Representatives from 14 partner organisations across 10 European countries met for two days of strategic planning and technical coordination. The meeting was hosted by Netcompany, project coordinator.

TerraTwin, funded under Horizon Europe, aims to build a unified Digital Twin framework capable of integrating fragmented environmental data from marine and terrestrial domains. The project seeks to deliver an advanced decision-support system to help protect Europe’s natural capital in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss.

SARTI-UPC Participation and Role

The SARTI research group from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) actively participated in the Kick-Off Meeting.

Within TerraTwin, UPC leads the data harmonization activities, focusing on the pre- and post-harmonization of heterogeneous environmental datasets. This work is essential to ensure interoperability across diverse monitoring infrastructures, observatories, and data providers participating in the project.

Strengthening the Marine Dimension of TerraTwin

Through its long-standing experience in underwater observatories and marine instrumentation, SARTI-UPC contributes to integrating high-resolution, long-term in-situ ocean observations into the TerraTwin architecture. This integration reinforces the marine component of the Digital Twin and supports scalable, cross-domain environmental modelling.
