First field test of the benthic crawler Rossia, integrated into OBSEA as part of the DIGI4ECO project

On Wednesday, November 19th, we successfully carried out the first field test of the resident benthic crawler Rossia at the Port of Vilanova i la Geltrú.

This robot is being developed and integrated into the OBSEA underwater observatory to enhance its capabilities for real-time monitoring of the seafloor, in the framework of the European project DIGI4ECO (Digital Twin-sustained 4D Ecological Monitoring of Restoration in Fishery Depleted Areas), funded by the Horizon Europe programme.

Equipped with environmental sensors, underwater cameras, and a robotic arm, Rossia will enable long-term ecological observations and support the creation of a digital twin of the marine ecosystem off the coast of Vilanova i la Geltrú.
