From December 4 to December 22, the second BITER oceanographic campaign took place aboard the RV Sarmiento de Gamboa. The primary aim of this expedition was to assess the restoration status of marine reserves. To achieve this goal, extensive visual transects were executed using the ROV Liropus to document tagged individuals and annotate their spatial positions. Complementing the visual transects, specialized lander stations created by UPC were deployed in deep-sea environments, enabling the monitoring of habitat recovery throughout the entire study period. Furthermore, the adaptive AUV developed by UdG was employed in conjunction with the lander stations, integrating acoustic long-baseline localization systems for autonomously tracking benthic species with varying degrees of motility.
