Marum team at Obsea facilities

On February 13, MARUM researchers from the University of Bremen have started testing sensors for underwater vehicles at the OBSEA facility under the EMSO ERIC physical Access 2022 call.

The main objective of this activity is:

  • Develop a strategy on how to permanently monitor the hydrodynamic behavior of a miniaturized underwater vehicle.
  • Evaluate the performance of a miniaturized Ultra-Short Baseline System (USBL).
  • Investigate the variability of physical ocean parameters close to the OBSEA node.
  • Investigate the intra-sensor variability and uncertainty of measurements using the combined in-situ and UV data.
  • Check the performance of the high-level AI concept of the miniaturized underwater vehicle.

The OBSEA infrastructure is offering real-time data access and by that opens up new opportunities to continuously monitor the motion behavior of a deployed AUV which will also be used to validate and adapt the assumed hydrodynamical model for the vehicle under real field conditions. Making use of the acoustic communication link to the AUV scientific data can also be retrieved in real-time.
