Unable to pass up an opportunity like this, SARTI colleagues were in La Palma last week of the campaign. They did it within the MELOA project, where the WAVY Ocean are developed that are designed to follow the movement of the waves, having a set of sensors that in addition to measuring the currents and accelerations due to the waves, also measure the temperature of the water close to the surface.

With the collaboration of PLOCAN colleagues, between October 27 and 29, eight WAVY Ocean were launched near the lava delta caused by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, to analyze the effect of this unique event on the behavior of shallow waters collecting data on sea temperature, coastal water circulation and wave patterns.

Of the eight drifters (WAVY ocean), which are programmed to periodically send data to databases via the Argos satellite, two are still in the water collecting information and can be tracked via the MELOA Citizen Awareness application because, using GPS signal they send their position.
