On December 19, a dead dolphin of the species Stenella coeruleoalba, one of the most common in the Mediterranean Sea, was found on the beach of s’Abanell (Blanes, Girona, Catalonia). In order to determine the causes of his death, the animal was taken to the Animal Health Research Center (CReSA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

After the autopsy, SARTI staff anchored it in front of the OBSEA video camera to capture images of the environment with the scientific goal of studying spatial and temporal changes in the marine community. local due to the appearance of the body of a large mammal on the seabed. This acquisition of images accompanied by the collection of environmental data such as temperature and salinity, speed and direction of currents, among others, will allow researchers from the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), the interaction of species in the area with the carcass and its decomposition.

This project has the support of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
