Fixed Point Open Ocean Observatories Network

Electrochemical corrosion measurements in deep seas

Starting date: 05/2015
End date: 04/2016

– P. Daponte, Lab. of Digital Signal Proc. and Meas. lnfo. University of Sanio. 82100 Benevento, ltaly.

– J.J. de Damborenea, Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Metalúrgicas, CENIM-CSIC, Spain

Objectives: The main objective of this project is to perform different studies of corrosion in a real environment using a new potentiostat device.

This new potentiostat has been designed to be connected in underwater observatories and be operated remotely. Moreover, it can perform different tests such as noise measurements or cyclic voltammetry.

Underwater acoustic modem with time synchronisation capability test at OBSEA platform

Starting date: 05/2015
End date: 01/2016

– PJ. Bouvet, Underwater Acoust. Lab. ISEN-Brest, Brest, France

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of a communication system capable to trigger communication time stamps when frames access or exit the physical layer of the system. Frame time stamping is necessary to perform accurate time synchronisation between sensors in an underwater sensor network.

SmartBay sensor testing and validation at OBSEA

Starting date: 01/2016
End date: 02/2016

– R. Chumbinho, SmartBay Ireland, Ltd. Parkmore Business Park West, Galway, Ireland

Objectives: To test GB MARETS (Galway Bay Marine and Renewable Energies Test Site) equipment in a real scenario (OBSEA) before deployment in Galway; to test equipment in a hyperbaric chamber at OBSEA; to train SmartBay personnel on operation procedures; to compare the data collected with several similar instruments; to compare data processing routines; to exchange know-how.

Analysis of FISH community structure and trophic relationships by AUTomated video imaging at a coastal cabled observatory

Starting date: 02/2015
End date: 05/2016

– E. Fanelli, ENE Center, A Forte Marine Santa Environment Teresa, La Spezia, Research Italy

Objectives: The main objective is to undertake a systematic monitoring of a coastal Mediterranean fish assemblage in order to enforce biological objectives and associated technological implementations.

Biological objectives: Explore multispecies temporal variability and, analyse prey-predator interactions.

Upwelling characterisation with Autonomous Underwater Vehicle

Starting date: 02/2016
End date: 02/2016

– I. Pairaud, Ifremer Méditerranée 8311 O La Seyne sur Mer, LERPAC, France

Objectives: One of the objectives of the experiments is to evaluate the measurements of an AUV by comparing against a moored ADCP. The AUV should navigate at different pitch angles, speeds or on the surface in order to identify what navigation modes are valid far using AUVs as current measurement instruments.

Shallow Water Hydrophone Array long term Deployment

Starting date: N/A
End date: N/A

– A. Figoli SMID Technology, Stefano Magra, La Spezia, S. Italy

Objectives:Verify the proper functioning of the system, set up the acoustic measurement parameters and, verify the proper working during time and resistance to environmental agents.

Currentmeter intercomparisson in a shallow water environment

Starting date: N/A
End date: N/A

– T. Pedersen, C. M0lina Nortek AS, Vangkroken 2. N-1351, Norway

Objectives: The experiment wants to execute an intercomparisson of data between two Nortek currentmeters during a long period of time in order to perform the following evaluations: Evaluation of the current speed estimations, evaluation of the current direction estimations and, evaluation of the power consumption. Differences between both instruments.
